Podcasts: Spiked and Good Ol Boyz
A spectrum of quality audio styles, direct to you from Kingstown Jamaica!
Two new podcasts (actually the former slipped between the cracks—it was recorded before the Queen died, then got delayed by me, then got lost in my spam folder..): Spiked Online and Good Ol Boyz. These recordings are quite the pair of opposites.
Spiked are some kind of… apparently in England, they had Trotskyists who have now become neocons. Many such cases. In England, though—they are not—we know I can’t say that—anyway. As for the Boyz, they are just good old Marxist crackers, “recording on occupied Confederate land.” On Hapsburg soil myself, I sympathize.
From a beverage perspective I approached these shows differently—one with just a latte or two, the other with my new powerful combination of Laphroaig and Hi-Ball—a severe, upper-crusty version of some disgusting club Red Bull drink. A podcast is a place; a change of taste is a change of place; and a guest must always be in place.
So it depends where you would rather be. Those who would rather be in Parliament, debating rarefied points of political science with fellow statespersons, will prefer the former. Those who would rather be in a bar in New Orleans, trading vile, inaccurate, and blasphemous insinuations with Ignatius J. Reilly, may favor the latter. They may even make a good double feature—like “Legally Blonde” with “Africa Addio.” Enjoy both on your beautiful morning run through the Hollywood Hills as silent unseen cougars stalk you from behind.
