How does he react when asked to piss on it to prove his allegiance?
When he has "transcended" to the point that his e-meter barely registers a tick as his children are hauled away, it becomes clear that what he's really performed is not some 200 IQ trickster ruse, but asphyxiation of his own soul in the service of comfort.
I was specifically thinking of Shusaku Endo's writings on Christian persecution in Japan --- yeah it's an extreme case, but as an extreme case I wonder what the anarch's response should be.
There's something profoundly nerdy about adopting this superior attitude and being like, "ha! jokes on you, I never cared about that Jesus guy anyway!". I do, of course, see the strategic failure Curtis and others outline in lashing out. I do see the nobility in quietly suffering inside the castle of one's own mind when no other options are available. But when there are options available, instantly giving up so you can quietly suffer in your own mind is cowardice.
I've been binging Charles Haywood's blog (it's great). He offers a very un-Moldbuggian take on January 6th, and a necessary contrast to Gray Mirror. I see reason on both sides of this, but the question I always come back to with Curtis's takes is, what's the difference between being an anarch and simply losing?
I think someone like Owen Benjamin walks the line well here --- he took the punishment dished out to him instead of backing down on defending children against sexualization. Now that he's banned from half of Babylon, he's doing the anarch thing out on his homestead, being self sufficient, not slapping the hornet's nest, but quietly building infrastructure outside of the beast.
Point is, he didn't put pronouns in his email sig (while we're talking about Owen, he has the best pronouns joke of all time, responding to a tweet from Justin Trudeau about enforced pronoun usage with, "My pronouns are Justin Trudeau is a N****R F****T").
When you fail to participate in their cult rituals of a totalizing ideology, you get to go to the extermination camps with all the other honest and fun dissidents. Death is not the end.
Allegiance will be demanded from everyone, perhaps with sufficient warning and more likely without. (Chaos is preferred by the regime.) Every one must decide how to react and prepare accordingly. In the Catholic Tradition, a martyr only needs one miracle, not the standard two, to be canonized. Martyrdom is considered in and of itself to a type of miracle. Not all men are martyrs.
"It is the malady of the ignorant to be ignorant of their ignorance." I did not find anything resembling peace until I was able to really internalize this.
> your pity for her becomes a special case of a general pity for humanity
The other possibility is, anger at /disappointment in her becomes a special case of anger at or disappointment in humanity.
The problem is, choosing the better path requires a catalytic event or encounter, and sometimes that just doesn’t happen. Maybe this Yarv response will be that for the author of the email. Hopefully.
The best relationships are the ones that transcend politics & ideology. Rigid adherence to the group becomes groupthink which is also tiresome & fake. As a person in my early 50s, I would recommend a more trad approach - do what is necessary to advance the causes of yourself & your loved ones.
You can be of the world without collusion. Think Ketman or the Power of the Powerless. I work for a super work employer. They pay me good money & good benefits & are generally a fine entity to their employees. They are at the forefront of CRC & all types of diversity initiatives. So, do I walk out the door? Who is playing whom? I get paid & don't believe in virtually anything they support, but quite frankly they don't need me. Would quitting in a huff make a difference? And, where would I go? To another woke competitor?
You're on the ride of life. Enjoy it. You don't have to engage the opposition or enlighten your allies. But - if there is a discernible shift, if there is a chance to throw back the barbarians, you must take it. I don't see this happening, but if I see Julius Caesar on the horizon, I will give up all ideological purity & follow this man to hell.
I like the sentiment and the motivation to stay un-triggered. I can't help but notice the things we once considered un-political are now so obviously political in our opponents' favor that going along to get along just looks like a consequence of our side's defeat already. I guess it could be worse.
Surely the anarch holds something to be sacred?

See the instructive case of "Fumi-e tiles" in 17th c. Japan.

Clear-pilled sounds like the blue pill from the other end of the horseshoe...
It’s too late to go back — your spirit will be whipped every day. You must act.
I’m friends with about a million libertarians/Libertarians/AnCaps/Agorists on Facebook and I hope this dude is one of them. He alright.
